Lighten Up By Paul Davis
Lighten up before you blow up
Lighten up before you have a meltdown
Lighten up before you hastily speak up
Foolishly put your foot in your mouth
Send your friendships south
Destroy, divide, and demoralize
Take time for yourself and realize
That unless you settle down
And find solitude to relax
You will be susceptible to attacks
Irritable and emotional fits of rage
Check your pulse and gauge
When your blood is beginning to boil
Don't let your temper let you spoil
Your wonderful relationships
At home, school, and on the job
If necessary, pray and talk to God
Eliminate explosive tendencies
Humble yourself, fall to your knees
Remember to say thank you and please
Take time to enjoy life and breathe
Rid your soul of fear and begin to believe
Lest torment entangle and cripple you
Believe for grace and peace in all you do
Lighten up, chill out, calm down a bit too
Life certainly is not all about special you
Others are important and have value too
Therefore awake to kindness and tenderness
Speak gently, cultivate friendships, and bless
Nurture people and listen with some sincerity
Be patient, long-suffering, and not so pushy
Breakout of your perfectionist mentality
Come back and down to loving reality
Respect humanity, and drop the profanity
Beware lest pride causes you to be a fatality
Full of yourself and driven beyond all else
Going through life fast, but getting nowhere
With your hair on fire, burning with desire
Yet dealing yourself a devilish and deadly blow
As you rush and scurry through life and go
Forgetting your family and faithful friends
Driving on a collision course to a bitter end
Increasing in enemies daily, losing joy and glee
Speeding through life recklessly and sadly
Missing out on what life was meant to be
Lighten up before you die prematurely.
