It has been awhile since I posted the latest news on some of our idols so figured I would do so today. Here goes:
Anthony Federov celebrated his 24th birthday on May 4th. He finished in the 4th position of his season and after idol went on to star as "Matt" in the off-Broadway production of "The Fantasticks". He has made several guest appearances on different tours with one being "Simply Ballroom" last Spring. In March he made an appearance at the BMI Latin Music Awards honoring Gloris Esteban. A song he wrote and performed called "Deep Within My Heart" appeared on the Dreyer's Hot Tracks promotional cd. He also appeared in June of 2006 on the reality show "Fear Factor" and took 2nd place on that show.
Currently he is heavily involved as the national spokesman for the charity called Sarcoma Foundation of America. Many of you may not know that his older brother Denis died from this dreaded disease in 2006. Anthony will be having a special concert in September with proceeds going to this worthy organization. Bravo Anthony and our hearts are with you on your loss.
Belated birthday wishes also go to Rickey Smith of season 2 who celebrated his 29th birthday on May 8th. Rickey was eliminated in the 8th position on his season. He stayed in Los Angeles trying to start a music career for a couple of years to no avail and finally ended up moving back to his home state of Oklahoma to finish his schooling. He makes guest appearances at different functions often.
Wishing both of these talented guys are best wishes and many happy returns .
Random Idol buzz
Seems Jennifer Hudson who is currently touring with Robin Thicke had to postpone 4 dates on the tour due to throat fatique. Jennifer sure has been having a rough year and we hope she feels better soon.
Randy Jackson is making an appearance today at the National Train Day held in Washington D.C. He will perform in the opening ceremony and is spokesman for the event. Similiar events are held in Philadelphia, Chicago and Los Angeles.
As you know many of our past idols have appeared on several of the idol shows that are held on the TV Guide channel. This week Ace Young had an interview with none other than Bo Bice of season 4. He is currently touring and working on a new album. Paula Abdul also appeared on the show American Idol Extra.
Speaking of Paula, it was great seeing her perform her new single "I'm Just Here For The Music" which is off her new album that will be coming out in the Fall. This talented lady has sold 53 million records, had 2 multi-platinum albums, 6 #1 singles, won 2 Grammy awards, 5 MTV awards, 4 American Music Awards, 2 Emmys, 2 People's Choice awards, a Teen Choice award and 2 Kid's Choice awards. Wow Paula, your awesome!
By the way the American Idol 50 city tour dates have been announced so check out the site at AI for all the news on that.
Sad news to report as David Cook's older brother Adam lost his 11 year struggle with a brain tumor. He died on May 3rd. On May 4th David appeared as an honorary chairman for the 12th annual Race for Hope which benefits National Brain Tumor Society and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure. This event raised $98,000 for the cause. David hopes to go every year to support this worthy cause in honor of his brother. I think it was wonderful that Adam was able to see the show twice when David was a contestant. He was there for Mariah Carey week of that season and also had the priviledge of seeing his brother win the title. Our thoughts and prayers go out to David and his family.
Ending on a happy note of the news. We want to congratulate Constantine Maroulis of season 4 who has just received a Tony nomination for his portrayal of "Drew" in the Broadway musical of "Rock of Ages".
Well gang, that's it for now.
