| This week on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, a big 8th season of the world's biggest talent contest, American Idol, begins. Among the changes in store this season is the addition of a 4th judge, pop songwriter and producer Kara DioGuardi. She will join the show's 3 existing judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson. Reportedly, Simon Cowell will cast the deciding vote in choosing who advances toward the final rounds when there is a 2-2 tie. American Idol also plans to give more air time this year to the Hollywood week which determines who makes it to the final 12. Also, a wild card round will be re-introduced to select final members of the group of 12. In response to frequent questions, the show's producers deny any of the changes came about due to concerns about number of viewers for the show. Some years American Idol produces a Kelly Clarkson. Other years it's a Taylor Hicks. For now, however, it seems the show is a permanent part of the US pop music landscape and there is much more of this season to come. http://top40.about.com/b/2009/01/11/american-idol-is-back-for-season-8-this-week-with-a-few-changes.htm | |

| I love the new judge. She is so expressive. I believe she has brought alot more fair judging for the contestants which is what is needed. Btw Jodie....I love the top...."Keeping the jive alive". Very, very nice. | |
