Hi everyone. Well tonight finds us doing the actual auditions in Galveston rather than Houston as I mentioned on my other post. Seems alot of dissention was going down especialy amongst our judges who were having a lot of disagreements on who to send to Hollywood. Frankly I was mostly in Jennifer Lopez's corner. Our show is starting out playing one of my favorite songs called "Spirit In The Sky" as Captain Dan who is in the International Space Station welcomes us to the show. Here goes on the actual show.....
The Good (sort of)
Skylar Laine is a country girl through and through. She works in her family's country store which is having trouble staying open due to the economy. Frankly I did not care for the twangy way she sings "Hell on Heels" by the Pistol Annies.
Baylie Brown was only 16 years old when she tried out for American Idol in season 6 (I remembered her). She did not make it past Hollywood and now she is back at age 21. She sings "Bed of Roses" by Bon Jovi. Seems to me she was better years ago but the judges are impressed and give her the gold.
28 year old mom of three is Kristine Osorio who is going through a divorce and actually used her attorney money to come out for this tryout on American Idol. Her version of Nelly Furtado's "Scared of You" had good and bad in it but the good parts were enough to get her to Hollywood.
Linda Williams gets the yes vote from both Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson as she totally slaughters "Fallin" by Alicia Keys. What were these two guys thinking I ask along with JLo who gave her a no vote. This one truly sounded awful.
I was not sure I would like Cortez Shaw from Garland, Texas as his start to the song "Someone Like You" by Adele sounded blah however when he came down out of the high notes you could tell he does have a voice. Not totally blown away however.
Our sob story tonight is truly one of courage I think. Ramiro Garcia was born without ears at birth. He went through massive surgeries to re-gain his hearing and his speaking abilities. This worship leader did overcome and did a nice job singing "Amazing Grace". Not the best voice but I truly have respect for this guy and his supportive family.
The Bad
First up is camera action lover, weepy and gooney Phong Vu. He is positive he will prevail in the auditions and once in front of the judges gives a terrible version to the song "Unbreak My Heart" by Toni Braxton.
Several fast clips of other bad singers in the forms of Cameron Dobbins, Lamounte Hall and two deep-voiced cowboys.
This is where I totally agreed with Jennifer that these girls should have made it. But the guys were no votes on Rachael Turner, Reagan Wilson and Cheyenne James. Each sounded pretty good to my ears.
Aleandro Cazares talks alot of nonsense about the "revolution" of the underdog before he does a terrible job singing "Looking Up" by Paramore. He begs for a chance and eventually has to be escorted out by security.
Also showing no talent were Julie Shumen, Vanessa Hernandez and Erin Kittl.
Overall I was not very impressed with those we saw although I do see some potentials. 55 tickets were given out in total and hopefully those we missed will get some air-time in Hollywood. Our journey continues on to Portland, Oregon next week. I think we are nearing the end of the audition period and I am looking for to the Hollywood rounds.
I now you bid you
. Hugs all!
